A Guide to Buying the Ideal Short Course RC Truck

Short course RC trucks are one of the most exciting RC vehicles out there. They're fast and have the ability to bash easily and fly high, something that most other RC vehicles can't do. But with thousands of different short course RC truck models available nowadays, how do you pick the right one that will win you races against your friends and earn you some bragging rights, and perhaps even a trophy or two, if you're into competing?

Well, there are a couple of important things you need to consider when buying a short course RC truck, the most important ones being picking between 2WD and 4WD, the type of motor and the size.

Wheel Drive

The ideal wheel drive for your short course truck will depend on whether you want to race at high speeds or work on your control. 2WD trucks are harder to control, generally cheaper, and will make you a better racer in the long run. 4WD trucks, on the other hand, are more stable, and they're much more aggressive on the road. After you've polished your skills with a 2WD truck, you'll have a huge advantage over other riders who've used 4WD trucks exclusively.

Motors

Typically, RC motors can be either electric or nitro. Nitro motors are powered by petrol, and they're the best in terms of performance. However, they're also more difficult to maintain and you shouldn't drive an RC vehicle with a nitro motor in poorly-ventilated spaces. Electric motors, on the other hand, can be either brushed or brushless. Brushed electric motors are slower, more affordable, whereas brushless motors are faster and more expensive. If you're a beginner, then a brushed or brushless motor is probably the better choice.

Size

Depending on where you intend to drive the short course truck, the ideal size will vary. If you plan on driving it on trails, go for a larger model so that you can overcome the bumps and obstacles in front of you. Generally, remote control vehicles come in 1/8, 1/10 and 1/16 scale models. You'll notice that the price of the model will depend on the size, with larger models being more expensive than smaller ones.

Durability

Whether you're using your short course truck on snow and truck, you should go for a model that's well-built and all of its electronics are sealed so that particles can't get in and make it wear out. In order to ensure this, you're best of shopping from reputable brands like Traxxas, Losi, HSP, HPI, Axial or ARRMA.
