RC Vehicles: Important Factors to Consider When Buying a Rock Crawler

You've already settled for what kind of RC vehicle you'll get to explore new adventures with and it so happens to be a rock crawler. Rock crawlers are a very interesting type of RC vehicle as with every obstacle there is a new challenge. Unlike other vehicles where you can only navigate through grass or on other smooth surfaces, like concrete. But to be sure you get all the fun that comes with rock crawlers it's important you focus on some game-changing factors. Today we are going to discuss those factors to help you get what works best for you.

Rock Crawler

Electric

What you need to consider first is whether or not you are going to opt-in for an electric type of rock crawler. If you are just starting out and exploring RC vehicle models you will definitely befriend an electric RC car rock crawler. Why? Well firstly, because they won't affect your budget as much and they are also very customizable. Electric models are really quiet but have less power (this doesn't equal less speed) also there are models that are waterproof. But be aware as their batteries tend to drain out pretty fast, make sure you have some spare batteries when you want to spend driving it for longer periods.

Size

Size really does make a difference with rock crawlers as different size models provide the user with additional capabilities. For example, a 1/10 scale rock crawler can be used by anyone just because it can be used both indoors and outdoors and it also has 4 wheel steering. This is the most affordable size a rock crawler gets. With bigger 1/8 there's an age rating saying that they can only be used by someone who is 14 or older, as they are pretty large due to the fact that they come with twin motors that enable them to climb up bigger rocks.

RTR or Kits

Most of you will go for an RTR (Ready-to-run) unit, and that is okay as long as you are impatient and want to just spring into action. But if you want to get that real RC experience then building kits are going to be best for you. With the former, you won't spend time on assembling the RC car rock crawler but you will pay more. With the latter, you will spend less money on it but you will spend more time assembling the vehicle. This is a matter of personal preference.

Nitro/ Gas

These types of rock crawlers are more powerful than electric models and they can run longer as well. What you need to take into consideration here is that they are not beginner friendly and they are very noisy too. They use a specially formulated fuel but that doesn't stop the vehicle from smoking a bit so please do consider the area where you are going to be using one. Unlike electric models, it will take some time for you to get used to driving them, as they are faster thus harder to control.
